Setting up your online checkout

You use your secure Shopify checkout to accept orders and take payments wherever you sell online. After customers add your products to a cart, they use your checkout to enter their shipping information and payment details before they place their orders.

You can view and change your checkout settings from the Checkout settings page in your Shopify admin:

  1. Make any changes to checkout settings:
Customer accounts Require customers to create accounts at checkout, make customer accounts optional, or disable customer accounts.
Form options Choose the information your customers need to supply at checkout.
Order processing Activate automatic order notifications and automatic fulfillment, send abandoned checkout emails to customers, set up order archiving, and request permission to send promotional emails to customers.
Checkout language View your checkout language, or click Manage checkout language to translate your checkout.
Refund, privacy, and TOS statements Add and edit your store sales and privacy policies to the checkout.
  1. Click Save.

If you sell using the Online Store sales channel, then you can also change the appearance and layout of the checkout pages. From the Style section of the Checkout settings page, click Customize checkout to access the theme editor and make changes. Learn more about changing the style of your checkout pages.

Some channels, like Facebook, let eligible customers complete their purchases using other checkouts. When a customer uses a different checkout, the third-party sales policies will apply, rather than your Shopify policies.
