Managing your leads and referrals

As a Shopify Partner, you can earn money by referring merchants to Shopify, Shopify Plus, and Shopify POS. You can submit Shopify POS and Shopify Plus leads, and view your referral history in the Referrals section of your Partner Dashboard.

From the Leads page, you can track the status of your submitted leads, sort, filter and search for leads, and find the contact information of the Shopify sales representative assigned to your lead. You can contact your assigned Shopify representative to ask questions or request sales support for your lead.

On the Referral history page, you can view a list of all your successful referrals, including stores that you've created for merchants.

Leads

You can submit Shopify POS and Shopify Plus leads, and track the status of each lead.

Submit a Shopify POS lead

You can follow these steps to submit a Shopify POS lead:

  1. From your Partner Dashboard, click Referrals.
  2. On the Leads page, click Submit a POS lead
  3. Enter the information requested for your referral and click Submit.

You'll receive a submission confirmation email from Shopify with the details of your referral. The lead appears in the Submitted leads table.

Submit a Shopify Plus lead

You can follow these steps to submit a Shopify Plus lead:

  1. From your Partner dashboard, click Referrals.
  2. On the Leads page, click Submit a Plus lead.
  3. Enter the information requested for your referral.

    If your lead is eligible to upgrade immediately, then the Send an upgrade invitation section appears on the page. You can add a message to personalize the invitation.

  4. Click Submit.

You'll receive a submission confirmation email from Shopify with the details of your referral. The lead appears in the Submitted leads table.

If your lead is eligible to receive an upgrade invitation, then the store owner receives an email containing a link to the Terms and Conditions. The store owner needs to agree to the Terms and Conditions to complete their upgrade to Plus. Shopify Plus tools and features are available to the merchant within 24 hours of their acceptance.

If your lead is new to Shopify or isn't ready to upgrade immediately, then your lead will be qualified by a Shopify sales representative. The Shopify sales representative might reach out to you directly if additional lead details are needed.

Send an upgrade invitation

If your lead is a Shopify merchant, then they might be eligible to receive an invitation to have their store upgraded to Plus within 24 hours. An upgrade invitation enables Shopify Partners to quickly onboard merchants into Shopify Plus from the Partner Dashboard. This process doesn't involve the Shopify sales team for onboarding a merchant into Shopify Plus.

View the details about a lead

From the Leads page, click a lead in the Submitted leads table to view the following details:

  • The current status of the lead and what to expect next
  • A timeline of the status changes of the lead
  • The Shopify sales representative assigned to the lead
  • The details of the lead you provided during submission

The following table briefly describes each status for Shopify Plus and Shopify POS leads.

Submitted

You submitted a lead.

If you requested sales support, then our sales team is reviewing the lead.

If you didn't request sales support, you'll still need to contact your sales representative to create the contract and close the sale.

Your lead has been received.

If you requested sales support, then our sales team is reviewing the lead.

If you didn't request sales support, and the lead meets the POS referral terms, then you'll receive a payout according to the promotion terms. Note: Leads with no sales support stay in the Submitted state, even after a payout is awarded or if the lead is ineligible.

In progress Your lead is in contact with our sales team. If you requested sales support, this means we're actively co-selling this referral with you. Our sales team is working on your lead.
Awarded You'll earn a commission on this lead according to the referral terms. Your lead has completed our sales cycle and you'll receive a payout according to the promotion terms.
Ineligible You have not earned commission on this lead. The referral is not eligible for a payout.

Search for a lead

You can sort the leads in the Submitted leads table by column, including status, name, and more.

You can also search for leads using the lead contact name, lead contact email address, business name, or website URL.

When you click a lead, you can view a detailed status timeline and the contact information for your assigned Shopify representative to ask questions and discuss the next steps for completing the sale.

Referral history

The referral history is a list of Shopify merchants that you've referred. The referral history includes the date of referral, the selected plan, and the revenue amount for each referred merchant.
